The 2023 Chief Student Services Officers Association (CSSO) Annual Spring Conference is the association’s premiere event designed for ALL student services practitioners. We invite administrators, faculty, staff and community leaders to submit workshop proposals for the annual spring conference to be held March 13-16, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency LAX.

The conference is your opportunity to share evidence-based, action-oriented practices from your campus that relate to our conference theme - “Liberation Now, Radical Actions for Today.”  We encourage proposals that promote educational equity, social justice and liberatory actions within the Student Services framework for California Community Colleges.  Submit your proposal today and contribute to our field with current practices that disrupt inequitable outcomes for our students.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated on their relevance to the conference strands, content, quality, applicability, and overall connection to issues affecting the community college and the success of the students related to the conference theme “Liberation Now, Radical Actions for Today.”  All proposals should clearly state participant outcomes, impact, and actionable outputs.

     Equity, Social Justice, and Liberation

Proposals will analyze the significance of equity, social justice, and liberation in student support services in the overall academic success of community college students, administrators, and faculty. Presentation proposals should examine promising practices and programs that target as well as facilitate discussion on how student services can better support and engage in equity, social justice, and liberation for students/ administrators/ faculty/ staff throughout their educational and/or professional development. Emphasis will be placed on presenters that have developed successful programs at their school sites, colleges, and/or in the community.

Policy, Research and Resources

Proposals should be resolution driven to make change of a particular problem or task (i.e., underrepresentation, policy changes, institutional practices, etc.). The proposal should stimulate dialogue, debate, and decision-making as they apply to (re)designing institutional practices and policies that serve as barriers to success.

High Impact Models, Innovation and Action

Proposals should highlight a high impact practice implemented with documented outcomes at a college and/or district. In addition to highlighting the work done at the college/district level, the session should provide a space for participants to ideate, innovate and imagine what could be within their own institutions.

Holistic Leader

Proposals should address the importance for educators to balance the multiple identities and roles in the workplace. These proposals should highlight how practitioners can be their most authentic self in the workplace and manage their mental, emotional, and physical wellness as student service professionals. The proposal should clearly provide useful practices and methods that can be integrated into professional roles.
